Personal Story

How blueberries became my daily lifesaver; and also my favorite fruit.

This thread is basically expressing my obsession with eating blueberries to the point that I've been consuming this nature's candy daily, and it has become a part of my daily diet.

What's behind this?

I don't normally eat fruits that much, but ever since I've been having health issues, specifically high blood pressure consistently for months, I've gotten worried about my health because my family also has a history of hypertension.

But why?

My blood pressure ranges from 138/70 to 148/85, and it's basically stage 1 and stage 2 hypertension (yup, not good). I've been tracking this inconsistently. This is likely due to my anxiety in going to school and overall my experience in 3rd year, with a combination of heartbreaks, etc.

How long has this been going on?

This has been going on for months now, and it continued when I came back to school for my 4th-year semester. I've reached around 140/90, which is stage 2 hypertension at this point, and I really felt my heart beating often, and it feels really heavy as well. I went to the school's clinic right after my second class, and the nurse checked my blood pressure since I felt extremely anxious at the time. Right after he checked it, he asked me how I felt and how long this had been going on. Once I told him I've been having this for months, he convinced me to have a check-up because, at this point, this is not normal at all.

Blueberries

It took me a few weeks to process and schedule an appointment with a cardiologist. With that, I've been eating healthy food, and I normally exercise in my free time. As I went outside to get groceries and look for lemons, I noticed fresh blueberries in the same section. They are very expensive here, around 400 pesos for small organic blueberries. At that point, I don't think I will eat these.

A few weeks have gone by, and I go to my usual grocery store, and we go to the frozen section. I was looking for mixed veggies that consist of frozen carrots, broccoli, & cauliflower. I've noticed some frozen blueberries on sale for around 204 pesos per pack. They're much cheaper and much bigger than the organic ones.

I decided to give it a try, and once I did, I wasn't really used to the taste since every bite was different. Since they are frozen, they are sometimes crunchy but sweet like a popsicle; sometimes they taste flowery; sometimes they taste fine. The overall experience was good.

I've been eating them daily since they are low in calories, and I've heard they're really good for fat loss. Months have passed, and I've noticed that my blood pressure is normal during my doctor visits.

I believe that shows enough how powerful a tiny fruit can be. I've gotten used to eating blueberries and was able to adapt because I like mixed berries (generic flavors) on everything lol.

Aftermath

I still have some anxiety issues and heavy feelings until now, It feels like my heart is beating a lot even when I'm trying to sleep. but it's a good thing to know that blueberries will now be a part of my daily diet, and if you're reading this, you may find blueberries a nice gift for me. I would appreciate that a lot and I would be very happy hehe.
